Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre
The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) has become West Africa’s regional center of excellence for Conflict Prevention and Peace Studies in the context of Peace Operations. Delivering courses to military and civilian personnel involved in Peace Support Operations throughout the world, the KAITPC leads original and challenging research and training into the causes and subsequent management of conflict and the promotion of peace.
Building on Ghana’s four decades of experience and competence in peace support operations, the Ghana Ministry of Defense in May 1998 approved the establishment of an international peacekeeping training centre. The centre was envisaged to not only address Ghana’s needs for training, to meet the changing demands of complex and multidimensional peacekeeping, but also the requirements of the West African sub-region as well as those of the continent. In its short history, the KAIPTC has achieved its aim of developing as a regional centre of excellence where education training and research on peace support operations are delivered to the highest academic and professional standards. To date, the centre has run over 100 training courses or activities and trained over 2,500 individuals from over 90 countries.
